A little known fact about me: I'm obsessed with peplum! Why? Because it's so flattering and comfortable. And I think all clothes should be versatile, flattering, and comfortable. But, back to peplum. Peplum defines a waistline and then creates an hourglass shape while skimming over the lumps and bumps I want to hide (and trust me I have some that I want to hide). As a tall woman with a very(!) long torso, it provides some visual interest in what would otherwise be a very long column.
But for whatever reason, the fashion industry has decided that peplum tops shouldn't be offered in tall. In fact, in my experience, peplum tops always seemed to run even shorter than usual. I haven't been able to figure out why this is the case, but it is why a peplum top was top on my list of styles to design.
Combine my obsession with peplum with my love for things that can be worn anywhere, anytime and you get this peplum top in shirting. The 100% cotton shirting material means it's lightweight and breezy, but also the perfect take on a standard button up for the office. You can see it styled casually here.
For the office, I paired it with my favorite navy blazer and some dress pants. To keep the outfit from reading too corporate, I added a chunky necklace and burgundy flats. The tortoise necklace and burgundy flats also help to transition this outfit into fall while keeping things light for the summer like temperatures we've been having. It's the perfect way to dress for the temperature and season when the two don't line up.
