When I started working for the clothing line full time, I started working from home. I was really nervous about the transition. I feared I'd miss physically going into the office, seeing friends and colleagues in the office, and would lack the motivation to stay focused while at home. Over the past few months, I've managed to create a schedule and set some guidelines that work for me so I figured I'd share them with y'all in case you work from home at all.
Most importantly for me, I shower, do my hair and make up and get dressed. I don't wear a suit, but I reach for a dress or jeans and a nice top. Before heading to sit down at my desk, I make the bed. Doing so limits any temptation to take a mid-afternoon nap. (The struggle is real, folks). I'm also a huge fan of stepping away from the computer for lunch. This is something that I never did at my last job, but now that I work from home, I walk my dog mid-day. Afterwards, I usually step outside to eat lunch if it's nice and if not, I'll at least sit at the table. The time I spend away from the computer is really productive and a huge perk of the new gig. I'm learning that sitting in front of the computer isn't the only way to work. Or, at least I'm trying.
Whenever I'm struggling to stay focused, I try to tackle a household chore. It gives me a break and is a lot more effective than scrolling Instagram, which is what I used to do at the office.
One thing I haven't mastered yet is calling it quits at the end of the day. Around dinner time, I walk the dog again but always end up on the couch working from my phone. It's bad. Please send all of your tips! Do you ever work from home? What do you love? Hate? What are your tips?
