Inspiration Behind The Pencil Skirt

Inspiration Behind The Pencil Skirt

I describe this skirt as "high waisted denim in skirt form". Why? Because it's made out of the same denim as your favorite skinny jeans. So it's stretchy, easy to move in, and my favorite part, it provides the same "holds you in" effect as high rise denim. Plus, it's appropriate for the office. So, it's the perfect piece of denim in my book.

Inspiration Behind The Double Peplum Top

My love for peplum tops knows no bounds. I find that they are extremely flattering no matter your height or shape. I know, some people are quick to say that they can't wear peplum tops. They've even tried some and they didn't work. But, I'm here to tell you that a peplum top can work for you, you just haven't found the right one.

My Favorite Bags for Work & Travel

My Favorite Bags for Work & Travel

You've probably seen a crossbody in photos on Instagram or on the blog. And they are my favorite casual, everyday bag. My favorites are from Kate Spade (a true style icon of mine).  But, when commuting to the office every day or traveling for work, I need to be able to lug my laptop, charger, notebook, and a handful of other things with me. So, a crossbody just won't cut it.

How To Pack for a Business Trip

How To Pack for a Business Trip

When I first started traveling for work I realized that packing for a business trip was more challenging, and of course less fun, than packing for vacation.

I always wait until the last minute to pack (even when it comes to vacations). Please tell me I'm not the only one! On my first multi-day business trip, I resorted to packing a capsule wardrobe based around one neutral color. I recommend using black or navy as your base color as doing so allows you to pack a single pair of dress shoes and tights (if needed), and makes it easier to mix and match fewer pieces to create more outfits. Although I resorted to this approach because I was crunched for time and thoroughly uninspired to pack, it's become my go-to method!

The design and sample making process is a wild ride. Sometimes, a design comes to life exactly as I had imagined. Sometimes a piece turns out even better than I could have imagined. But, sometimes, the initial sample just doesn't live up to my dreams. So, I have to work and re-work the design or fabric selection until it's perfect.

A little known fact about me: I'm obsessed with peplum! Why? Because it's so flattering and comfortable. And I think all clothes should be versatile, flattering, and comfortable. But, back to peplum. Peplum defines a waistline and then creates an hourglass shape while skimming over the lumps and bumps I want to hide (and trust me I have some that I want to hide). As a tall woman with a very(!) long torso, it provides some visual interest in what would otherwise be a very long column.

Behind the Scenes: A Pink Blazer

Behind the Scenes: A Pink Blazer

I know what you might be thinking: "I don't need a pink blazer," "a pink blazer isn't practical," or "it's cute, but where do I wear it?". I get it. I don't think I've ever thought to myself "I need a pink blazer." So, why did I design a pink blazer?

Make Up Routine for the Office

Make Up Routine for the Office

I like to make getting ready in the morning as seamless as possible. That means I invest in clothing that is versatile and easy to wear. It also means that my make up routine is filled with no-fuss, high impact products. These are my tried and true favorites that I use daily and are a combination of department store and drugstore finds.

Textured Sheath Dress Styled for Work

This dress may not immediately say "workwear" to everyone - it's a cotton, sleeveless sheath dress. But, it is as easily dressed up for work as it is thrown on for whatever your weekend holds. Here, I paired it with a grey blazer I already owned and my favorite black pumps. I have also paired it with a solid black blazer and cardigan and it worked just as well.
